Jean's Day 39: Pick up the pieces

I am going to start ranting, and it wouldn't make sense. *breathe*

So. Valentine's Day. I look through my facebook feed and I see posts from friends my age who go "oh V-day is so over-rated I'm just going to go home and have normal dinner, no need flowers/gifts/etc"... You know what's common amongst those friends? They're married.

I gotta admit that even though it's been 5 years, I still really dread being single on V-day because to me it is a special day! This coming from someone who has had more bad V-days than good - once I got dumped just the night before, and another time I had to console an already-ex-bf who got dumped (yeah kinda weird).

But unfortunately for me, I am the mushy romantic who think the world gets brighter when I'm with someone. As commercialized as V-day is, I embrace it wholeheartedly because it's that one day that people put in a little bit more effort than usual to make your partner happy, and reinforce that relationship. No matter how jaded of a couple you've become, there's a sort of acknowledgement that will change the way you treat each other - even if it's just a teeny bit different, it will happen.

This year I stayed in the office till about 10pm (on purpose), and my dinner was a Chicken McGrill burger and a lemon tart from Audacious Cakery. Oh and my mum left me some bird's nest yum.

So today's not a 'happy' one, but I'm definitely relieved that I survived the day.

To non-single friends, I hope you had a lovely V-day with great sex! I'm jealous.

    1. World needs more people like you who keep the magic alive in V day. For whatever it's worth, you're getting loads of friendship love on this day from everyone who knows you & I just know when you do celebrate this with your someone special next time, it's gonna be sickeningly sweet & sizzling hot ;P
